I use Twitter and the #backchannel to maintain a constant dialogue with the viewers of my newscasts. 24/7

My wife. Who knows what she's thinking :-)
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
I avoid shortening anything. That's part of the fun, complete words, thoughts and sentences in 140 characters.

Yes, for frequent pointless and vulgar rants.

I believe the #backchannel is really about the community that participates. A vote for me is a vote for all of us.

How do you make your tweets unique?
Most of my tweets are spontaneous and conversational. That's not unique, but I think that's rare.
What inspires you to tweet?
The absolute need to connect with my TV audience. I've talked AT them for 32 years, it's time for me to listen.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
A few times during the 11:00 news we will have so many people conversing that someone will comment. But they usually end up joining us.

Avoid exceeding 140 characters. Please, never Twitlonger. Please.

Why'd you start tweeting?
I started tweeting while anchoring newscasts because I was bored, I continue to tweet during newscasts because I am engaged.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Yes. Connecting via Twitter to my TV audience has energized me beyond measure. I feel a responsibility to do better for them every day.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
How will the world change in the next year?
More people will connect via social media. They will talk and inspire and they might just act.

Starting a conversation, then not responding
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
We will be more connected. We just have to resist the urge to be less communicative.
