The Shorty Interview
with Lauri Stevens
What's your best tweet?
Go #Pats (sorry)
What are six things you could never do without?
My family (to include my labradoodle), my cellphone, a purpose, humor, good friends, and great art.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
I work exclusively w/ law enforcement 2 help them use Twitter 2 communicate w/ citizens, investigate and solve crime.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
UberTwitter, hands down
Twitter or Facebook?
I definitely spend more time on Twitter. Need to do better at Facebook. But Twitter is where it's at for me.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
This is a really hard question 'cuz I don't follow them. Bad answer? I guess #shitmydadsays was pretty funny. I saw some of that.
What feature should Twitter add?
I'd like a feature (for clients) 2 B able 2 auto-retweet select people.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Every law enforcement agency and key communicators within them on the planet.
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
The names of officers who die in the line of duty (LODD)
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Law enforcement agencies - so many follow no one (argh!!!) and I have a lot of good info for them.
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
Sure, if they tweet too much about nonsense or if I happened to follow some1 who tweets inappropriate content.
Why should we vote for you?
Because it will help show law enforcement that a lot of people believe in the power of Twitter for cops to do their work.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
#tacop for "thank a cop" and #BLo100 to raise awareness among law officers to lower line of duty deaths
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
They tend 2 B law officers in far away lands who contact me 2 ask whether U.S. cops know any more than they do about SM. (theydon't)
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#BLO100 for "Below 100" an initiative by LawOfficer.com to lower line of duty deaths to under 100 for first time in decades.
How do you make your tweets unique?
The information I tweet (all LE) is unique. Also, I tweet to inform about line of duty deaths and prevention, and any incidents.
What inspires you to tweet?
Twitter is changing the world. I have my little place in it and feel like I'm really making a difference. :-)
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
No, not that I know of. Maybe they just unfollowed me. :)
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Get going, it makes more sense the more you use it. But never tweet anything of which Grandma wouldn't approve.
How long can you go without a tweet?
As long as I need to. What I don't like is not checking in to see what others are up to. For that, not more than an hour or so.
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Sheesh! Isn't this enough? I have 16 left to go!
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
The biggest change may be in the ways in which people use Twitter rather than anything Twitter does....Tying ppl together more.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
@GraffitiBMXCop
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
@stephenwelton which says a lot about how dull my life is :-) (sorry Steve)
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it's going away.
Why should people follow you?
They shouldn't, unless they're a cop or care about how their cops can help make their lives safer and better with social media.
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
So many. I like @LAFD_Talk @eric_andersen @pigspotter @DeputySloly @CyberSafety808 @GraffitiBMXCop
How do you decide what to tweet?
Mostly law enforcement social media related. Also officer safety (line of duty deaths). I TRY - but don't always succeed - to stay focused.
Why'd you start tweeting?
I saw the power for LE and knew I couldn't get them to do without showing a good example. So I started tweeting LE relevant SM info.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
My career path has changed drastically b/c of Twitter. I left a 9-5 six months ago to work with LE fulltime. Working well so far!
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Twitter needs to be used for more collaboration among law enforcement and citizens and social good of all kinds.
How will the world change in the next year?
People are connecting w/each other so fast and globally. More work for the social good b/c it's becoming easier for ppl to make a difference.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Not honoring the culture of Twitter by being one-way. And just peddling crap to make a buck really grates on me.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
One of the most exciting things 2 me is rapid access 2 information. The best ideas will B applied to problems/crimes/issues instantaneously.
